Containers For Change

At Rural Lifestyle Options Australia, we are always exploring new and innovative ways to improve our supports and services. One of the ways in which we achieve this is through our Unfunded Projects initiative. We are proud to have partnered with the Queensland Government’s Containers for Change Scheme to assist us in achieving our fundraising goals through our Unfunded Projects initiative.

How does the Scheme work?

Through this partnership, members of the public can return eligible empty containers at authorised container refund points or at any of our office locations.

How can I support Rural Lifestyle Options Australia?

You can drop off your containers at one of our office locations:

  • Shop 1B, 100 Donald Road, Redland Bay, QLD 4165

  • Unit 4C, 21 Mayes Avenue, Logan Central, QLD 4114

Alternatively, you can choose to support the organisation through this scheme by choosing to donate to our Scheme ID ‘C10072058’ when you return your eligible containers to a refund point. We would be grateful if you could also encourage your friends and family to donate their eligible containers to our organisation using our Scheme ID also.

Outside of our offices, there are four different types of container refund points available in Queensland:

Depots

Walk in or drive through to get your containers counted and refunded on the spot.

Bag drops

Bags of containers can be dropped off at various locations as a convenient and contact free way to recycle and receive refunds via your scheme ID.

Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs)

Insert uncrushed containers into an RVM so the machine can count your containers by scanning their barcodes.

Pop-ups

These are run by local depot operators who organise a set time and location that you can visit to return your containers.

What containers are eligible?

Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and 3L are eligible for a 10 cent refund.

Eligible containers must:

  • Be included on the scheme’s list of products. Use our eligibility checker below to ensure your containers are eligible.

  • Display the refund mark (e.g. “10c refund at collection depots/points in participating State/Territory of purchase”)

There are some beverage containers that are not eligible for a refund. Generally excluded containers are those that are less than 150ml and greater than 3L.

Excluded containers include:

  • Plain milk containers of all sizes including plant-based milk substitutes

  • Glass containers that contained wine or pure spirits

  • Containers 1L or more that contained flavoured milk, pure fruit or vegetable juice, cask wine or cask water

  • Concentrated/undiluted cordial or syrup containers

  • Sachets above 250ml that have contained wine

  • Registered health tonics

Every donation which contributes to our Unfunded Projects, however big or small, assists the organisation in creating a better quality of life for the people we support. We are grateful for your ongoing efforts and appreciate your continued support of our Unfunded Projects initiative.
