As Rural Lifestyle Options Australia prepare for Tropical Cyclone Alfred, we want to make sure you are informed and ready. ‼️

Premier David Crisafulli, along with Bureau of Meteorology’s Matt Collopy and Acting Police Commissioner Shane Chelepy, have urged residents to prepare now for the possibility of Alfred making landfall in South East Queensland this week.

South East Queensland is at risk of severe flooding, erosion, and dangerous surf. While the exact landfall location is still uncertain, Bribie Island, Moreton Island and North Stradbroke are likely to be impacted first.

Here’s everything you need to know to stay safe during Cyclone Alfred:

🔴 Stay Informed:

  • Register for free Brisbane Severe Weather Alerts.

  • Follow social media channels for real-time updates from relevant authorities.

  • Check your local Council’s emergency dashboard and tune in to local radio stations for the latest info.

🌧️ Prepare Your Home:

  • Roof & Gutters: Inspect your roof for loose tiles, eaves, or broken guttering and make repairs. Clean gutters and downpipes to ensure water drains quickly.

  • Trees & Branches: Trim any branches that are too close to your home.

  • Sealants: Ensure window sills are sealed to prevent leaks.

  • Maintenance: Fix any loose fittings or damaged timber around your home.

🧹 Additional Prep:

  • Empty standing water from containers and paddling pools.

  • Disconnect all electrical appliances and outdoor aerials.

  • Fill buckets and bathtubs with clean water in case of supply disruptions.

  • Move outdoor equipment, chemicals, and trash to higher ground.

  • Protect fridges/freezers and valuables by moving them off the ground or to higher areas.

  • Sandbag indoor drains to prevent sewerage backflow.

  • Park vehicles safely away from trees, powerlines and waterways.

🐾 Ensure Safety for All:

  • Make sure all household members (including pets) are in a safe, strong room like the bathroom or laundry.

  • Take your emergency kit with you while sheltering.

💧 Water & Sewage Preparedness:

  • Fill containers with clean water and prepare for potential water supply interruptions.

  • Sandbag internal drains to prevent sewage backflow.

🚗 Be Ready to Leave Early:

  • Ensure your vehicle has a full tank of fuel and park it in a sheltered area.

  • Make an evacuation plan and check for road closures before leaving.

🔌 Utility Shutdown:

  • Be ready to disconnect your gas, electricity, solar power and water services if instructed to do so.

🏠 Secure Your Home:

  • Install cyclone screens and secure windows and doors if possible.

  • Tape plastic sheeting to windows to prevent wind and rain from entering.

Stay prepared, stay safe and keep yourself and your loved ones out of harm’s way. 💙
